FUCHS MAINTAIN DOT 4 Brake Fluid - MADE IN GERMANY

Super High Performance Brake Fluid for hydraulic brake systems and clutch actuation in passenger cars, trucks and motorcycles.

Description
MAINTAIN DOT 4 is a synthetic high performance brake fluid and clearly exceeds the requirements of DOT 4 regarding boiling characteristics. Therefore MAINTAIN DOT 4 offers additional protection against vaporization even under severe conditions.

Application
Vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations are to be obeyed when using MAINTAIN DOT 4. Do not use MAINTAIN DOT 4 in any kind of hydraulic brake or clutch actuation systems if a silicon or mineral oil based fluid (e.g. LHM or DOT 5) is specified.

MAINTAIN DOT 4 is miscible and compatible with conventional branded brake fluids of same technology or performance. However, mixing with other products should be avoided in order to fully utilize the product’s benefits. A complete change of the fill is recommended when converting to MAINTAIN DOT 4.

Advantages/Benefits

  • Universal use in both passenger car and heavy duty application if a DOT 4 break fluid is specified
  • Additional protection against high temperature vaporization
  •  Protects the entire hydraulic brake and clutch actuation system against deposits and corrosion

BRAKE FLUID PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE

Brake fluid is one of the most neglected yet important fluid. The level should be check regularly and it should be in between MIN and MAX levels. Slight drops in levels over time are expected but sudden drops could mean a leak.

Brake fluids should be changed every year or two but frequent driving in start-stop conditions in humid climates may require it to be changed earlier. The issue with brake fluids is that it absorbs moisture from the surroundings through microscopic pores in hoses and worn seals. This is especially problematic in wet and humid climates.

After a year brake fluids may contain as high as 3% water by 1.5 years. What’s the problem with this then?

First, it corrodes precise metal hydraulic components such as valves and pistons and causes them to stick. Eventually, moisture also creates a rusty sludge inside the system that clogs its vital valves and ports.

Second, moisture can degrade brake performance by causing vapor lock inside the hydraulic system. A mere 3% water absorption will lower the boiling point by up to 50%.  If the fluid boils, vapour bubbles occur à the brake pedal will feel mushy or spongy àmore effort to stop the vehicle.

In worse-case scenario, when the braking are applied the pedal may go all the way to the floor but the brakes are not activated!
